About Dr Khan

Dr Faraan Khan is a consultant neuroradiologist at the Atkinson Morley Regional Neurosciences Centre at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London, where he has worked since his appointment in 2018. He qualified from University College London Medical School in 2007, holding an MBBS and an intercalated BSc in Clinical Pharmacology with first class honours. He subsequently achieved Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2011 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in 2016.

He subspecialised via the London Neuroradiology Fellowship, one of the most prestigious neuroradiology training programmes in the UK, with experience at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) at Queen Square, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital. He holds the European Diploma in Neuroradiology (awarded 2019) from the European Board of Radiology - an advanced qualification recognising expertise in neuroradiology at European level.

He is dual-trained in both paediatric and adult neuroradiology - a relatively uncommon combination - and serves as Neuroradiology Lead for the Regional Neonatal Neurology and Neuromuscular Multidisciplinary meetings. His specialist clinical interests include the neuroradiology of congenital infections, paediatric brain tumours, fetal MRI of the brain and neuromuscular neuroradiology.

He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and is keenly committed to teaching, regularly delivering education to university students, allied health professionals and doctors at all levels of training.

Scans Dr Khan Reports

Dr Khan is a specialist neuroradiologist reporting brain and spine imaging for both adults and children. His dual training in paediatric and adult neuroradiology is uncommon and makes him one of the most versatile neuroradiologists in the Doctorum team.

Brain MRI

Specialist reporting of adult and paediatric brain MRI across a wide range of indications including tumour, demyelination, stroke and ischaemia, infection, epilepsy, congenital malformations, neuromuscular disease and metabolic conditions. Reporting both 1.5T and 3T studies.

Spine MRI

MRI of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine including cord pathology, disc disease, nerve root compression, myelopathy, cord tumours, inflammatory conditions and spinal cord injury. Expert reporting across adult and paediatric spinal presentations.

Neuro CT

CT brain and spine including emergency CT for haemorrhage, trauma, hydrocephalus and stroke, CT angiography for vascular assessment, and CT myelography. Experienced in urgent neuroradiology across major neuroscience centre settings.

Plain Radiographs

Plain-film radiography of the skull and spine. Used as an initial investigation in selected neurological and trauma presentations, and as part of the broader neuroradiology workload.

Not sure which type of scan you have? We will identify it for you. Simply get in touch and we will confirm the modality and match your images to the right specialist before any report is produced.

Clinical Expertise

Dr Khan combines the breadth of a major neuroscience centre radiologist with focused subspecialty depth in paediatric, fetal and neuromuscular neuroradiology - a combination that is rare among UK neuroradiologists.

Paediatric Neuroradiology

Subspecialty expertise in the neuroimaging of children - a distinct discipline requiring knowledge of normal developmental anatomy, paediatric-specific pathologies and age-appropriate imaging protocols. Clinical interests include paediatric brain tumours, congenital infections, neurodevelopmental conditions and neonatal brain injury.

Fetal Neuroradiology

Specialist interest in fetal brain MRI - a highly specialised technique used to evaluate the fetal brain when ultrasound findings are uncertain or abnormal. Used to assess brain development, detect malformations and support counselling of expectant parents about complex prenatal neurological findings.

Neuromuscular Neuroradiology

Specialist in the neuroimaging of neuromuscular disease - including muscle MRI, nerve MRI and spinal cord imaging for conditions such as muscular dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy, peripheral neuropathies and other inherited neuromuscular disorders. Neuroradiology Lead for the Regional Neuromuscular MDT.

Adult Neuroradiology

Full breadth adult neuroradiology practice at the Atkinson Morley Regional Neurosciences Centre, covering brain and spine MRI and CT for the complete range of adult neurological presentations including tumour, demyelinating disease, stroke, infection, hydrocephalus and spinal cord pathology.

Congenital Infection Neuroradiology

Dedicated clinical interest in the neuroimaging findings of congenital infections - including cytomegalovirus (CMV), toxoplasmosis, rubella and other TORCH infections. These conditions produce characteristic brain imaging abnormalities that are important to recognise and interpret accurately for clinical management and prognosis.

Second Opinions on Brain & Spine Imaging

With the depth of subspecialty training across both adult and paediatric neuroradiology and the European Diploma in Neuroradiology, Dr Khan is well placed to provide specialist second opinions on complex or uncertain brain and spine imaging findings for patients of any age seeking greater clarity on their neurological scans.
